To be considered for a individual feature on Don't Smile, please send 15-20 images of a developed body of work, an artist statement, and a short bio written in the third person in a .zip file to email@example.com. The images must be 1280px on the long side, 160ppi, and cannot exceed 20 MB.
Note: This is not how you submit to Don't Smile's current Call for Entry for an exhibition. See below for those guidelines.
For Don't Smile's third year, women photographers from historically underrepresented populations, specifically artists who identify as African, Latinx, Asian, Arab and Native American will be featured exclusively. This does not apply to the current Call for Entry, School's Out for the Summer: Student Photography. Photographers of all ages and points in their career may apply to be featured on Don't Smile.

School's Out For The Summer: Student Photography

Fees: $10 submission fee
Don’t Smile is seeking photography made by women photographers who are currently pursuing, or have graduated in May 2018 with, an undergraduate or graduate degree with a focus in photography. Eligible submissions will be from current or recently graduated undergraduate/graduate students, and the work will have been made in the last two years. Show me what you’ve been making in prior semesters!
One photographer will be awarded Curator’s Choice, which will consist of 100% of the submission fees from School’s Out for the Summer: Student Photography to enable them to continue making their work this summer. The Curator’s Choice winner will also have an individual feature of their work on Don’t Smile.
Send 3-5 images to firstname.lastname@example.org in a .zip file. Each image should be 1280px on the long edge, 160ppi, saved as .jpegs and saved with the naming convention lastname_firstname_title.jpeg. Please pay the submission fee using the button below.
All photographers included in School's Out for the Summer will be published next year in Don't Smile's Year Three Zine (April 2018-March 2019). All images are copyright of the artist.
